Zadar is a city situated on the Adriatic Sea, at the northwestern part of Ravni Kotari region. It is the seat of Zadar County and the wider northern Dalmatian region. It faces the islands of Ugljan and Pašman, from which it is separated by the narrow Zadar Strait.
